 School Of Bright Promise    

The School of Bright Promise educates students with developmental disabilities aged 6-21. Students are served from the five Local Education Agencies (LEA's) including: 

Students at Bright Promise receive classroom instruction tailored to meet their specific needs based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP's). Additionally, they are eligible to receive adjunct services such as:

  • Adaptive Physical Education
  • Home Living Skills
  • Community Based Education
  • Music Program
  • Nursing Services
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Phyisical Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Special Olympics
    • Swimming
    • Basketball
    • Track
    • Cheerleading
    • Bocce

 If you have a child with developmental disabilities, he or she may qualify for education at The School of Bright Promise. Testing of your child should be referred to the school physiologist in your home district. A multi-factored evaluation team will meet with parents to decide appropriateness of placement at Bright Promise.

   
    
 Pre-School    

The Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities Preschool is open to both handicapped and non-handicapped children between the ages of three and five years old. The relationship is eight handicapped to two non-handicapped children per classroom. There are two preschool classrooms available.

The Pre-School Program is designed to provide for the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth of young children.

Pre-School Goals for Students and Student Curriculum

  1. To Develop a positive self-image; to feel that they are worthwhile and capable individuals.
  2. To grow in developing self-control and assuming responsibility for themselves through making choices and solving problems.
  3. To play and to create from their own feelings, thoughts, and observations, along with observations of appropriate models.
  4. To develop social skills such as cooperating, helping, negotiating and talking to solve inter-personal problems and to relate to others in ways that are fair and satisfying to all.
  5. To increase small and large motor skills through active exploration and interaction with materials, with other children and with adults.
  6. To develop listening and language abilities through individual and group activities.
  7. To participate in and enjoy experiences that will lead to understanding and skills that are developmentally appropriate for each child's particular age and abilities.
